Spit on Society #2: 3 Female-Led Bands that Rock my World!!!!!

As a music lover, I love learning about new music... there is almost like a fire in my blood that forces me to actively search for new things within music, in all genres. Since I was basically shown rock music by my parents and my older sister, I truly enjoy "discovering" new rock groups, bands. Now with the streaming era of music, it may seem easy to find new artists to listen to; however, whenever I come across a new, cool artist... I sometimes only look at a couple songs. Some of my all-time favorite bands are Paramore and Evanescence, so whenever I find a new female-led band/duo to obsessive over I am truly excited and full of renewed life and energy. I will give a brief description of the band, and why I love each of them.

The first time I was introduced to the band Kuromi was through TikTok, and I know that is a very Gen Z thing of me to say but I have found some amazing music through the app. The band has a very distinctive sound by being loud, brash, and vibrant atmosphere to them. They released their first self-titled album on January 19, 2018, thus meaning that this is what one gets when they listen to their music. Kuromi is able to give you a crazy energy boost when you most need it. The first song of theirs that I absolutely fell in love with was "Cutie in the Mosh Pit" because it is my dream to fall in love with someone in a mosh pit, probably because it sounds like something straight out a fanfiction.

They are a three-piece bijou trash punk band from Glasgow with the resulting band members being Cal, Eilidh, and Simone. They all switch between instruments multiple times throughout a set thus making them very busy. They were created in December 2017; however, they were first known as "Klitterati" about three hours before a show and with only ten minutes of practice beforehand. They had formerly supported artists such as  Diet Cig (US), Colleen Green (US), The Parrots (Spain), Mike Watt (US), The Nightingales (UK), and have toured with Spinning Coin and Caramel (members of Joanna Gruesome). This was basically the formation of friends literally just having fun together, and doing what they are passionate about instead of worrying about the bullshit of what everyone else thinks about. Their sound is very contradictory cause it can be described as being smooth but also screechy, and attentive, and alert yet can also be devil-may-care. The first song (which I also recommend cause it is amazing) I heard from them was "R U a Feminist".  I love it because the lyrical content is facts, and it also is very true in modern-day because I feel as though sometimes it became a trend to be a feminist. My favorite lines are: "You're a feminist until I won't fuck you. You're a feminist until I talk to the other guys. You're a feminist you say 'I won't judge you'. You may be twenty-eight But you're just a little boy And when you don't get your own way You throw up all your toys You're not a fucking feminist. If you don't act with kindness. If you treat women with violence." As I get older, I realize that actions speak way louder than words.  Because anyone (no matter the "gender") can say that they are a feminist; however, if they do not support everyone such as trans women (even though they are valid as women) then they are not a feminist. Those type of people only cares about self-serving feminist, which news flash is not true feminism.

As someone that was basically raised on the pop-punk classics such as All Time Low, Paramore, and Green Day (and many more) then introducing the Norwegian pop-punk/pop-rock band SLØTFACE is truly making me excited. The members include Haley Shea on Vocals, Lasse LokØy on Bass, Tor-Arne Vikingstad on Guitar, Nils Jørgen Nilsen on drums. However, they faced problems on 1 April 2016 the band changed their name to Sløtface, citing social media censorship issues. I was first introduced to them while watching "Sex Education" on Netflix, which is also a very Gen Z thing to say once again. I believe that their transformation was like from the carefree and vivacious teenager to the semi-serious yet still confident and buoyant young adult (which is kinda basically the perfect band for me since I am still in college yet kind of have responsibilities). The first song I heard from them was "Magazine", and it has my favorite lyric of all time which is "Patti Smith would never put up this shit" because it is a mood.

My Favorite Songs: Empire Records; New Year, new me; Pools; Laughing at funerals.
